Helping cancer patients keep their smiles! Proceeds of the 2010 Toothfairy Gala auctions will go to the BC Cancer Foundation, in support of BC Cancer Agency’s Dental Emergency Relief Fund. Losing one’s hair is often a tangible and visual side-effect of cancer treatment. So is tooth loss. Radiation and chemotherapy treatment compromises dental health for patients with all types of cancer. To ensure the best dental outcomes, procedures such as fillings, root canals, and crowns need to be done on a regular basis. We know oral health and overall health are related. Patient survival can be affected if cancer treatment is interrupted in order to treat aggressive gum disease or an oral infection. But none of these dental procedures are free or covered under MSP. Many low income patients do not have dental insurance and cannot afford the dental treatment they need to improve their cancer treatment outcome. The BC Cancer Foundation is raising funds to establish a Dental Emergency Relief Fund at the BC Cancer Agency that will cover one-time costs of critical dental procedures for cancer patients across the province. Your gift towards this fund will significantly impact and benefit the lives of cancer patients and help them keep their smiles. |
